From: Terence M. Doyle (WMWX62A@prodigy.com)
Subject: bands
Do you know of any Byrds cover bands--aside from "Byrds
Celebration?" I once saw a listing for a band called
EIGHT MILES HIGH, but I don't know what kind of music
they played.
Terry
Terry, there was a band called Starry Eyed and Laughing
out of England some time back. They advertised in some
Byrd zines and did some Byrd covers, but I don't think they
were really just a cover band. I haven't heard of Eight Miles
High. There was a feature about tribute bands in a recent
issue of Mojo, and there was no mention of any Byrds
tribute band. Have any ByrdWatcher readers come across such
a group?

From: Adam Mahler (acmahler@acsu.buffalo.edu)
Subject: Guitar on "Chimes of Freedom"
On the song "Chimes of Freedom", is David Crosby playing
the non-12-string electric guitar part that sort of sounds
like tear drops against the background of the Rickenbacker
that sort of sounds like chimes? The non-12-string part
can be clearly discerned from Roger's guitar when the verses
are being sung. Is this non-12-string David, or was the
track added on with Roger playing a 6-string?
Adam
Adam, I don't know for sure but in the ordinary course of
things it would have been Crosby. It doesn't sound like
McGuinn's playing style. The two guitar tracks are
completely separated on the reissue, so it's easy to hear
the part you're referring to. (And until I listened to it
again today, I never noticed those flubbed notes in the
prob'ly Crosby part at the 1.30 and 2.56 marks.) Can anyone
confirm or deny that Adam is hearing Crosby on that song?

Subject: Here Without You
Do you know which album "Here Without You" is on? And do
you know where I might find the chords? OLGA does not
have them.
Jim November
Jim, "Here Without You" is from Mr. Tambourine
Man. There is also a nice cover by Peter Holsapple
and Chris Stamey of the dB's on Mavericks (RNA, 1991).
Sorry I don't have words and chords on the site --
anyone who knows the story of the University of Wisconsin
archive will understand why. Luckily, some helpful soul
on alt.music.byrds posted them the other day, and
I'm told another helpful soul forwarded them to you
already. Happy strumming.
