Tim & Kathy Connors

I hope ByrdWatcher readers won't object if I take the opportunity to introduce myself. (Umm, my name is Tim Connors and I've been a Byrdmaniac since 1985... ) I'm a 33-year-old from Shaker Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. I'm married to the wonderful Kathy Connors, and we have a three-year-old daughter named Kate.
My background is checkered, including stints working in a large law firm, running my own multimedia production company, being a full-time dad, and serving as executive director of a not-for-profit involved with community computing networks. Currently I practice information technology law at another large law firm that would probably just as soon I left their name off this site.
Back in 1994, during my multimedia phase, I began work on what was intended to be a CD-ROM about the Byrds. I had to set that project aside when Kate was born in November of '94, but in '97 I decided I really ought to 'port the Byrds project to the Web... and so here it is.
I suppose it's obvious from this site that I'm something of a music buff. My tastes are catholic: I like almost all kinds of rock-related music, including (in rough chronological order) country, blues, bluegrass, R&B, doowop, rockabilly, folk, soul, ska, British Invasion, garage rock, psychedelia, funk, reggae, punk, alternative, rap, and more. You'll see gratuitous references to a few of my favorite musicians throughout this website. Some of these have at least a remote connection to the Byrds, like Richard Thompson, the Mekons and Robyn Hitchcock; some have very little to do with the Byrds, like the Kinks. Of course, there's a slew of favorites that I just couldn't work in, like George Clinton, the Buzzcocks, and the Jazz Butcher.
Besides music, I'm interested in politics, history, science and the arts, including a lot of other pop culture -- films, books, zines, etc. I follow policy issues related to the Internet very closely, and I dabble a bit in genealogy.
I am a member of the statewide board of the Ohio chapter of the ACLU and have been active on issues of censorship, especially related to music and the Internet. In January of 1997, I had the honor of making a multimedia presentation at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum called "First Amendment Rock: Censorship in the Rock Era." You can read the Rock Hall's official press release on their website. A few weeks later, I had the opportunity to testify on behalf of the ACLU before a subcommittee of the Ohio House of Representatives against a new bill which resembled the Communications Decency Act.
